Construction of a New Bridge at Naperville Golf Course

The Naperville Country Club, a prestigious golf course in Naperville, IL, is undergoing a major renovation that will rejuvenate the course and provide its members with improved amenities. As part of the project, a new bridge was constructed to replace a collapsed concrete bridge on Hole #9, which had raised significant safety and logistical concerns. The renovation not only includes the bridge but also highlights the importance of using the right equipment and technology to ensure a reliable foundation for future generations of golfers.

To build the new 60-foot steel bridge across the creek bed, Copenhaver Construction, a trusted partner in the construction industry, was selected to take on the task. With a bridge capable of handling over 20 tons, it would provide the necessary infrastructure to allow trucks and equipment to cross the creek during future maintenance and construction activities. However, the task of driving the 12-inch pipe piles into the ground for the bridge's foundation presented a unique challenge.

Initially, the contractor planned to use their ICE® I-19 Diesel Impact Hammer. While the I-19 is a highly powerful piece of equipment, it lacked the precise control needed for the delicate nature of this task. The project required the ability to regulate the amount of force being applied to the pile, as precise bearings were required for the proper placement and depth of the pile. Given these considerations, the contractor decided to switch to the ICE® IP-3 Hydraulic Impact Hammer.

The ICE® IP-3 Hydraulic Impact Hammer, paired with the GEN-4 Remote Control, proved to be the ideal solution for the job. This combination allowed for fine-tuned control over the amount of force applied during each blow, specifically the ability to deliver a single blow per inch—an essential feature for ensuring the accuracy needed for the foundation. Copenhaver Construction was pleased with the ease of use and flexibility offered by the IP-3 Hammer, as it was able to drive the pipe pile 22 feet deep into the ground with precision.

While the ICE® IP-3 Hydraulic Impact Hammer doesn't come with additional features like a reader, it does require a bearing chart to meet the safety standards set by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). The ICE® team, known for their customer-focused service, quickly provided the engineer with the necessary specifications, ensuring the project remained on track and within budget.

The new bridge is now complete, and Copenhaver Construction has once again demonstrated the power of precision and reliability in their work. The upgraded bridge not only guarantees safe access for golf course staff and equipment but also enhances the overall landscape of this vintage golf course. Club members are excited to return to the course in the summer of 2023 to experience the improved amenities and appreciate the meticulous efforts put into the renovation.

The Importance of Hydrauli-Flex Hoses in Hydraulic Equipment

Behind the success of projects like this is the performance of the hydraulic equipment that powers vital tools like the ICE® IP-3 Hydraulic Impact Hammer. A crucial component of hydraulic equipment is the hydraulic hose, which ensures the efficient transfer of fluid that powers operations. Without high-quality hoses, the reliability and safety of hydraulic equipment would be compromised.

The Hose Company, a key supplier of Hydrauli-Flex Hoses, plays an essential role in ensuring that ICE® Vibratory Hammers and Drills operate at their peak performance. Hydrauli-Flex hoses are engineered to withstand high pressures and harsh environments, making them the ideal choice for demanding applications like foundation work and pile driving. Their robust design and flexibility allow them to deliver reliable service in even the most challenging conditions, contributing to successful and timely project completions.

The collaboration between ICE® and The Hose Company ensures that every piece of equipment is supported by hoses that offer unmatched durability and flexibility. This partnership guarantees that ICE® equipment operates smoothly, making it a preferred choice for contractors and engineers who demand the best in performance.
