Expanding Horizons: Hydrauli-Flex's Role in the Seagirt Marine Terminal Project

This monumental project not only addresses the significant cargo increases experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic but also positions Baltimore as a leading port capable of accommodating ultra-large container vessels.

The Seagirt Marine Terminal expansion, a collaboration between the Maryland Department of Transportation and Ports America Chesapeake, has transformed the port with a new 50-foot berth. This development allows the simultaneous docking of two 14,000-TEU vessels, significantly enhancing the flow of essential supplies and equipment to small businesses across the United States. The investment of $122.1 million not only revitalizes the port but is also set to create approximately 7,300 new jobs, showcasing the project's broad economic impact.

Integral to this ambitious initiative was the expertise of Fay, a leader in innovative construction methods, and ICE®, known for its specialized equipment solutions. When it came to placing the substantial pilings required for this foundation development, Fay turned to ICE® and its advanced machinery, including the ICE® 110 Vibratory Pile Driver/Extractor. This dynamic equipment, paired with our high-quality hydraulic hoses, facilitated the efficient driving of 52-foot king piles in challenging marine conditions, eliminating the need for divers and resulting in significant cost savings.

The project incorporated both PZC25-43 sheeting piles and W21X182 wide-flange king piles to create a robust foundation. The seamless collaboration between Fay and ICE® allowed for essential modifications to the equipment, ensuring that the project met its tight deadlines and budget constraints. It’s a testament to the experience and expertise required for such substantial infrastructure endeavors.
