Powered Progress at Sandpiper Cove 2022 in Galveston TX

In 2022, The Hose Company was proud to play a role in transforming the Sandpiper Cove apartment complex in Galveston, Texas. This century-old property faced significant challenges, from foundation instability to water intrusion, and the community deserved a solution that would restore their homes to a livable condition.

Sandpiper Cove, originally built in 1971, sits on a foundation dating back to the early 1900s. While the structure’s history carries a certain charm, it also came with a host of problems rooted in Texas' infamous clay-rich soil. The constant cycle of expansion and contraction caused by water absorption and dryness had taken a toll, leaving the foundation cracked and vulnerable. Residents lived in deteriorating conditions, hoping for the long-promised upgrades to soon come.

When Putnam Builders stepped in to address these challenges, they brought a vision for safeguarding the property against future damage while respecting its unique history. A key part of their solution involved driving 2,600 feet of sheet pile around the complex, creating a protective barrier akin to a storm levee. The choice of equipment for this delicate operation was critical—too much force could risk further damage to the already fragile structure.

The ICE® 216D Vibratory Hammer proved to be the ideal tool for the job. Its precision and power allowed crews to drive the 25-foot steel sheets efficiently and without compromising the integrity of the property. Behind the scenes, Hydrauli-Flex hoses were an essential component of the operation. Known for their reliability and performance under pressure, our hoses ensured seamless energy transfer in the vibratory hammer, enabling Putnam Builders to execute this complex project with confidence.

The significance of this project extended beyond construction challenges. During excavation, workers unearthed a chilling piece of history—14 empty coffins used as ground fill for early foundation prep.

Today, the residents of Sandpiper Cove can look forward to a brighter future, with a reinforced foundation and improved drainage systems, including a storm-water pump station with automatic water control gates. These upgrades not only protect the property from flooding but also ensure that the soil beneath the apartments remains stable for years to come.

At The Hose Company, we take pride in knowing that Hydrauli-Flex hoses played a vital role in this impactful project. By powering the ICE® equipment that made these critical improvements possible, we contributed to Galveston's mission to preserve affordable housing and improve the quality of life for residents.

Every project has its challenges, but with the right tools and partnerships, progress is always possible. We’re proud to stand behind the equipment that helps communities rebuild and thrive. Here's to the residents of Sandpiper Cove and to a future built on stronger foundations.
