Powering ICE Equipment for the Growing City of Miramar
Miramar, Florida, a city that once was a small town, has been experiencing a surge in growth that outpaces 91% of similarly-sized cities in the U.S. Since 2000, its population has expanded by 81.1%, and it now ranks as the 209th largest city in the country. With this rapid growth, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has been busy working on a comprehensive makeover of the city’s roadways to improve infrastructure and create a more livable urban environment. From new bike lanes to enhanced pedestrian access, the 20 projects taking place from 2022 to 2027 will help create a safer, more connected Miramar.
Among the contractors involved in shaping the city’s future is Magnum Construction Management (MCM), a family-owned business based in nearby Miami. MCM is managing a critical project to improve mobility along University Drive, particularly a new pedestrian overpass bridge near the intersection of Miramar Boulevard. This project, part of a larger plan to strengthen the city’s infrastructure, includes the construction of a bridge over a canal, with a robust, 18-inch square concrete pile foundation.
When preparing for the pile driving process, MCM turned to International Construction Equipment (ICE®) for their cutting-edge machinery. The team installed a template for propping up the piles using the ICE® 28 Vibratory Driver/Extractor, equipped with an ICE® 140C Sheeting Clamp. The project also required precise pre-drilling, achieved through an ICE® EX-25 Hydraulic Rotary Head paired with 24-inch flighting mounted in 26-inch swinging leads.
What made the process even smoother was ICE®'s innovative swinging leads, which helped maintain crane alignment while ensuring the pile-driving equipment stayed in a vertical position, preventing any interference with the canal. After predrilling, the piles were driven into the ground using the ICE® I-12 Diesel Impact Hammer, equipped with a 24-inch drive cap to absorb driving stress and protect both the hammer and the pile from damage.
The Crucial Role of Hydraulic Hoses
The importance of the equipment’s hydraulic system cannot be overstated. For ICE® vibratory hammers and drills, hydraulic hoses play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the machinery. These hoses are responsible for maintaining consistent hydraulic pressure, which is essential for optimal functionality and overall performance.
That’s where we, at The Hose Company, come into play. Our Hydrauli-Flex hoses are designed with high-demand applications in mind, making them the perfect fit for ICE® machinery. Whether it's a vibratory hammer, rotary head, or impact hammer, Hydrauli-Flex hoses are built to handle the pressure and challenges of the job. We ensure our hoses deliver unmatched durability and performance, keeping ICE® equipment running at its best, even under the most challenging conditions.
Our hoses are crafted to meet and exceed the high standards of construction projects like the ones happening in Miramar. By choosing Hydrauli-Flex hoses, MCM and ICE® can focus on getting the job done with peace of mind, knowing that the hydraulic components they rely on are fully supported.
