Powering Mansfield Township’s Future

At The Hose Company, we pride ourselves on being at the heart of major infrastructure projects that power the future. Our Hydrauli-Flex hoses play a crucial role in the success of the equipment used in projects like the new electrical substation being built in Mansfield Township, New Jersey. This project, overseen by PSE&G Power, is not just another upgrade – it's a necessary response to rapid economic growth and a bold step toward a more reliable energy future.

The Growing Need for Power in Mansfield Township

As Mansfield Township continues to expand, with over 4,300 new businesses contributing to an influx of population and demand, the need for a robust and reliable electrical infrastructure becomes more pressing. PSE&G Power is leading the charge with statewide upgrades to the electric grid, including a new substation designed to relieve the load on existing facilities, like Bustleton and Crosswicks stations, which have struggled under the weight of overcapacity.

The electrical substation in Mansfield will help manage this surge in demand, with a set of 230kV/13kV transformers and a new four-breaker ring bus system. It will not only support the local community, providing power to over 32,000 homes and businesses, but also bolster the grid’s ability to withstand overloads caused by the increasing demand for electricity.

The ICE® 66C Vibratory Driver: Powering the Foundations

This project’s foundation work has been driven by ICE® equipment, and specifically, the ICE® Model 66C Vibratory Driver. At The Hose Company, we know that the foundation of any construction project, especially one as important as this, is critical to its success. The ICE® 66C has played an integral role in setting the stage for the massive electrical infrastructure going in. With 245 tons of driving force, this powerful machine has driven caissons 10.5' to 12' deep, creating solid foundations for the electrical poles that will hold up the power lines.

As part of the equipment that CJ Drilling, a leading woman-owned foundation drilling contractor in North America, has relied on, the ICE® 66C delivers precision and reliability under demanding conditions. That’s where our Hydrauli-Flex hoses come in. These durable, high-performance hoses are key components in the hydraulic systems that operate ICE® drivers, allowing them to generate consistent power while ensuring safety and efficiency.

Meeting the Demands of Larger Caissons

The project’s complexity didn’t end with the initial foundation work. Turns in the layout of the power lines required the use of even larger caissons. To meet this challenge, the ICE® Model 110C Vibratory Driver was brought in, delivering an impressive 412 tons of driving force. This enabled the team to drive caissons to depths of up to 154’, ensuring that the foundations for the power poles were strong enough to withstand the future power surges and environmental challenges they may face.

The Hydrauli-Flex hoses that we manufacture for ICE® equipment have been integral in this process. Their ability to handle high pressure and extreme environments makes them perfect for the demanding work required at this stage of the project. Our hoses support the hydraulic systems of these powerful machines, ensuring they operate smoothly and efficiently in the toughest conditions.

A Partnership That Powers Success

We’re proud to be part of this major infrastructure upgrade through our partnership with CJ Drilling and ICE®. The success of this early phase of construction speaks volumes about the reliability of the equipment and materials used. As CJ Drilling works to complete the final stages of this project, the combination of ICE® equipment, Hydrauli-Flex hoses, and the expertise of the team on the ground ensures that the power to Mansfield Township will be more than just a temporary solution – it will be a lasting foundation for future growth and success.

With PSE&G set to energize the substation in December 2022, the Mansfield community is on track to benefit from a state-of-the-art power system. For us at The Hose Company, being a part of this transformative project is an honor, and we’re excited to see how these vital upgrades will support the township’s growth for years to come. As the demand for power continues to rise, our Hydrauli-Flex hoses will remain a key component in ensuring that the equipment driving this infrastructure forward continues to perform reliably under pressure.

Here's to powering limitless accomplishments – one connection at a time.
