Powering Progress on Delaware River's New Dock
In a world where 80% of global goods are transported by sea, and a third of those shipments are oil, infrastructure at ports is more critical than ever. Electronic commerce has surged, driving the need for increased shipping capacity, yet the number of seaports has remained largely unchanged. Challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic—like abandoned shipments and container shortages—further compounded these issues. As we emerge from the pandemic, demand for commodities like crude oil has nearly returned to pre-pandemic levels, adding pressure on already crowded shipping routes.
For companies like PBF Energy, one of the largest independent petroleum suppliers in the U.S., overcoming these logistical challenges is essential. PBF Energy supplies gasoline, heating oil, kerosene, and aviation jet fuel via marine vessels, pipelines, trucks, and rail. To ease port congestion and improve efficiency, PBF is constructing a new dock on the Delaware River near its terminal in Paulsboro, NJ. This state-of-the-art facility will streamline the unloading of bulk liquids and petroleum products, reducing delays and costs for importers and exporters alike.
Commerce Construction's Expertise Meets ICE® Equipment
Leading the charge on this critical infrastructure project is Commerce Construction, a company with decades of experience working on facilities along the Delaware River. With their deep understanding of the region and its needs, Commerce Construction selected the ICE® 28D Vibratory Hammer to drive the 12-inch plumb and battered pipe piles that will support the dock.
Driving smaller piles can be a unique challenge, but Commerce Construction was prepared. They paired their ICE® 28D with the ICE® 99 Dunce Clamp. This innovative clamp, featuring a rounded jaw system, provides exceptional clamping pressure and precise control, making it ideal for pipe piles smaller than 18 inches in diameter.
Hydrauli-Flex: Behind the Power
At the heart of the ICE® 28D's exceptional performance are Hydrauli-Flex hoses. Hydrauli-Flex hoses are the perfect complement to ICE vibratory hammers due to their exceptional durability and performance under high-pressure conditions. These hoses ensure consistent hydraulic flow, which is crucial for the efficient operation of vibratory hammers in demanding environments. Their robust construction minimizes the risk of leaks and failures, enhancing the reliability and safety of the equipment. Providing the durability, safety, and performance that ICE requires for their high-quality vibratory hammers, Hydrauli-Flex hoses ensure successful and efficient project outcomes.
Commerce Construction’s decision to invest in ICE® equipment underscores their commitment to quality and precision. International Construction Equipment, Inc. (ICE®) is proud to support Commerce Construction with equipment maintenance and service as they tackle this important project.
Building for the Future
The new dock on the Delaware River represents more than just infrastructure—it’s a solution to a growing global challenge. With the collaboration of PBF Energy, Commerce Construction, and ICE®, this project is poised to "seas" the problem of port congestion, ensuring smoother and faster transport of goods for years to come.
At The Hose Company, we’re proud that our Hydrauli-Flex hoses are a vital part of this progress, powering the equipment that drives innovation and efficiency. Whether it’s marine construction, energy infrastructure, or heavy industry, Hydrauli-Flex is the trusted choice for reliability and performance.
