The work at hand was essential to meet the Ohio Department of Transportation’s directive to ensure that power lines near the highway were elevated high enough to allow the tallest vehicles, like oversized dump trucks, to safely pass underneath. Without proper clearance, the risk of a catastrophic accident, including fires or power outages, would be greatly increased, not to mention the potentially fatal consequences for those in or around the vehicles. Ensuring the safety of both the community and the workers involved in this massive project was paramount.
To tackle this critical task, FirstEnergy, as part of their Energizing the Future initiative, selected M. Betters Construction, Inc. to carry out the installation of the necessary foundations for the overhead power lines. Their choice of the ICE® 110C Vibratory Pile Driver/Extractor was instrumental in successfully completing this complex job.
The ICE® 110C was used to install the substantial 132-inch diameter caissons that would form the foundation for the new 80-foot power line towers.
