Recently, a project was undertaken to restore the integrity of the lake’s campgrounds and surrounding infrastructure, which had been threatened by erosion.
Douglass Pile Co. was contracted by the USACE to construct a retaining wall at Tionesta Lake to stabilize an eroded driveway that was starting to slide into the water. The team selected an ICE® 22D Vibratory Driver/Extractor to install NZ19 sheet piles, which would provide the earth-retaining solution necessary for the job. With the compact design of this powerful vibratory hammer, driving piles on a steep slope was no problem. The result was a sturdy wall that has significantly reduced the risk of further erosion, ensuring that visitors to the campground will be safe for years to come. This project also contributes to the impressive $570 million in flood damage prevention benefits the lake has provided since its completion.
