By 2021, the state of New Jersey had begun laying out plans to either transform or replace the aging Meadowlands Arena with a new convention center. The area, poised to become a hub of activity, needed critical foundation work to ensure the safety and stability of the site. Joseph M. Sanzari, a renowned contractor in the region, was selected to carry out the crucial task of reinforcing the ground and structure surrounding the arena.

To accomplish this, Sanzari turned to the reliable power of the International Construction Equipment ICE® 22D Vibratory Pile Driver/Extractor. The equipment was chosen for its lightweight design and impressive 94 tons of driving force, ideal for driving 30-foot sheeting piles to reinforce the foundation and halt any concerns of sprawling or structural instability.

A few years back, a major restoration effort was undertaken to preserve this important piece of history. The goal was to maintain the seawall’s aesthetic while bolstering its resilience against the elements. This delicate balance of form and function required specialized equipment capable of handling the demanding conditions.

Key to the project were the ICE® I-19 Diesel Impact Hammer and the ICE® 50ZR Vibratory Pile Driver/Extractor from International Construction Equipment (ICEusa), which were instrumental in reinforcing the seawall and restoring its structural integrity. This ambitious project included the creation of a 12,000-square-foot exhibition space celebrating the legacy of baseball’s greats, as well as a restaurant honoring the achievements of pioneers in the sport. However, before these modern enhancements could be added, significant foundational work had to take place to stabilize the stadium’s crumbling structure.

To address this, Nordic Contracting Inc. turned to International Construction Equipment® (ICE®) to recommend the right vibratory pile equipment. The ICE® 14D Pile Driver/Extractor was selected for its superior power-to-size ratio, which allowed the crew to navigate tight spaces while driving steel sheet piles deep into the ground. This ensured the foundation was strong enough to support the stadium’s revitalization.
