Building Resilience: The Rosethorne Tidal Project and Our Role at Hydrauli-Flex
As a hose manufacturer committed to supporting the construction and equipment industries, we at Hydrauli-Flex understand the critical importance of effective flood protection in areas prone to extreme weather. In the aftermath of Hurricane Ida, which wreaked havoc across Louisiana in 2021, the need for robust infrastructure has never been clearer. In Jefferson Parish, where storm surges reached a staggering 11 feet, the call for action has led to ambitious projects designed to fortify communities against future disasters.
One of the most significant undertakings is the Rosethorne Tidal Project. Spearheaded by the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority and the Louisiana Transportation Department, this initiative will install 29 miles of levees, floodwalls, and gated structures at a cost of over $300 million. The first phase focuses on constructing floodwalls that rise 7.5 feet above sea level, providing vital protection for the residents of Rosethorne against potential flooding from tidal events.
Why Equipment Matters
Circle Construction, based in Belle Chasse, has been entrusted with this critical task. When it came to selecting the right equipment for the job, they knew they needed a solution that could handle the unique challenges of the region's muddy terrain and tight spaces. The ICE® 7E Excavator-mounted pile driver and extractor emerged as the perfect choice, capable of delivering 57 tons of driving force while maintaining full mobility. This adaptability is crucial when working in residential backyards and navigating the challenges posed by saturated ground conditions.
At Hydrauli-Flex, we recognize that the hoses we manufacture play an essential role in ensuring the smooth operation of such advanced machinery. Our hoses are designed to withstand the rigors of construction environments, providing the reliability and performance that operators need when the stakes are high.
Protecting Communities with Innovation
The Rosethorne Tidal Project will result in the installation of 10,300 linear feet of floodwalls and floodgates, safeguarding the community of Jean Lafitte, LA, from the potentially devastating effects of future storm surges. Each piece of equipment used, including the ICE® 7E, showcases the incredible advancements in construction technology, all working together to create safer environments for residents.
As we look toward the future, projects like these reaffirm our commitment at Hydrauli-Flex to supporting the construction equipment industry. We stand alongside our partners, knowing that with each successful project, we are helping to build resilience against the forces of nature. Our goal is to ensure that businesses and communities are not just protected, but empowered to thrive in the face of adversity.
Impact Continues
As we continue to witness the impacts of climate change and severe weather events, it’s imperative that we invest in infrastructure that protects our communities. The Rosethorne Tidal Project is a prime example of how collaborative efforts can lead to meaningful change. At Hydrauli-Flex, we’re proud to contribute to such initiatives by providing high-quality hoses that help power the equipment that builds our future. Together, we can ensure that our communities are better prepared for whatever challenges lie ahead.
