Cape May’s Maritime Legacy
At The Hose Company, we take immense pride in the role our Hydrauli-Flex hoses play in supporting the iconic projects shaping industries across the nation. Among our proudest partnerships is with International Construction Equipment, Inc. (ICE®), whose equipment—powered by our Hydrauli-Flex hoses—was recently utilized in a historic expansion at Cape May’s bustling commercial fishing hub.
Cape May, New Jersey, steeped in history and renowned for its seaside charm, is more than just a tourist destination. Its commercial fishing industry, dating back to the 1600s, anchors its economy and connects it to a legacy of maritime excellence. With the combined ports of Cape May and Wildwood standing as the largest in New Jersey and among the largest on the East Coast, this thriving community has earned its place as a cornerstone of the U.S. seafood supply chain.
One of the shining examples of Cape May's fishing prowess is Lund's Fisheries, Inc., a third-generation family-owned business operating one of the largest seafood processing facilities on the eastern seaboard. With over 1,200 feet of waterfront and at least 15 vessels delivering fresh catches daily, Lund's Fisheries is a vital link in ensuring seafood reaches tables across the nation.
Recently, Lund’s undertook a transformative project: the construction of a new loading and packing house, designed to support their growing operations, including a $2 million investment in advanced scallop freezing technology. This foundational work required precision, power, and durability—qualities embodied by the Hydrauli-Flex hoses used in the ICE® equipment that drove 270 timber piles to depths of 30 feet.
Thomas Barry Marine Construction, Inc., a longtime partner of Lund's Fisheries with a legacy of 35 years of collaboration, spearheaded the project. To tackle this challenging task, they relied on the proven strength of the ICE® 14 Vibratory Hammer and ICE® 55 Clamp. These tools, equipped with Hydrauli-Flex hoses, provided the performance needed to complete the substructure of this critical expansion.
The completion of this project underscores the resilience and ingenuity of Cape May's maritime community. It’s a testament to the collaborative effort of industry leaders like Thomas Barry Marine Construction, ICE®, and Lund's Fisheries. At The Hose Company, we’re proud that Hydrauli-Flex hoses contributed to such a meaningful endeavor.
As Cape May continues to rank among the nation’s top 25 ports for commercial landings, the work done here secures its position as a leader in the seafood industry. For us, knowing that Hydrauli-Flex hoses are behind the power and precision of projects like this reaffirms our commitment to producing reliable, high-performance hoses.
Here’s to powering progress, building legacies, and supporting communities like Cape May’s—one project at a time.
