Powering Clean Energy Innovation with ICE® Vibratory Hammers

The path to a sustainable future runs through projects like the Brooklyn Clean Energy Hub, an ambitious initiative that will fortify New York’s power grid while paving the way for offshore wind energy. Consolidated Edison Inc. (Con Edison) is spearheading this transformative effort, and at the heart of the construction phase lies ICE equipment powered by our Hydrauli-Flex hoses from The Hose Company.

A Project Built for the Future

The Brooklyn Clean Energy Hub is not just a substation; it’s a cornerstone of New York’s clean energy future. With a capacity to integrate up to 1,500 megawatts of offshore wind energy, it’s designed to power 750,000 homes and bring New York closer to its renewable energy goals. The Hub represents a perfect blend of advanced engineering, environmental stewardship, and economic growth, creating jobs and bolstering local communities.

Construction began in early 2024, led by Skanska USA and Keller Group. The scale and complexity of this project required state-of-the-art solutions, particularly for critical phases like sheet pile driving. The ICE® 66C Vibratory Driver was chosen for this task, thanks to its exceptional performance and reliability.

Built to Drive Success

Key to the ICE® 66C’s power and efficiency are the Hydrauli-Flex hoses, engineered by The Hose Company. These hydraulic hoses are built for extreme conditions, delivering unmatched performance and durability under high-pressure operations.

For this project, the ICE® 66C needed to drive 60-foot sheet piles to create cofferdams for the new substation’s substructure. With a driving force of 245 tons and a frequency of up to 1600 VPM, the ICE® 66C had to operate flawlessly, even under the immense strain of such demanding work. Hydrauli-Flex hoses ensured consistent hydraulic flow, enabling the equipment to place the sheet piles safely and efficiently.

Supporting Clean Energy Goals

Hydrauli-Flex hoses are integral to projects that prioritize sustainability and innovation. By powering equipment like the ICE® 66C, they contribute to the success of infrastructure projects that have a lasting environmental and economic impact.

The Brooklyn Clean Energy Hub exemplifies this vision. Beyond connecting offshore wind energy to the grid, it features a design that reflects its purpose—solar panels, a green roof, and flood-resistant architecture. Scheduled for completion in 2028, this facility will serve as a beacon of clean energy and resilience along the East River.

Proud to Power Progress

At The Hose Company, we’re honored that Hydrauli-Flex hoses are part of this monumental effort. Our commitment to engineering excellence aligns with projects like the Brooklyn Clean Energy Hub, which embody progress, sustainability, and innovation.

Whether it’s supporting offshore wind farms, advanced construction projects, or heavy equipment in the field, Hydrauli-Flex hoses are built to drive the future forward.
