Powering Progress in the Turks and Caicos Islands
At The Hose Company, we take immense pride in seeing our products play a vital role in transformative infrastructure projects worldwide. Our Hydrauli-Flex hoses are once again at the forefront, powering the equipment driving change—this time, in the $53 million redevelopment of South Dock along the southern coast of Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI).
A Gateway to Growth
South Dock serves as the main gateway for cargo in the Turks and Caicos Islands, handling an incredible 95% of all food, fuel, and building materials entering the region. As part of a government initiative to modernize infrastructure, alleviate capacity issues, and enhance port safety, this redevelopment is a much-needed investment that promises to bolster TCI’s economy and tourism industry.
Currently, the port faces challenges such as vessel congestion, which leads to inefficiencies and higher operating costs. The new project aims to resolve these issues by constructing a wider, more modern pier, allowing for significant expansion and smoother operations. Once completed, this upgraded port will become a linchpin for the region’s growth, ensuring goods and services move efficiently.
Building with Strength: The Combi Wall
Subcontractor Island Site Development (ISD) is at the helm of creating a combi wall for the new pier. A combi wall—a blend of sheet pile walls and steel pipe piles—offers the strength and stiffness necessary for marine applications. This particular pier will span approximately 374 feet in length and range between 98.4 and 131.2 feet in width, providing ample space for expanded operations.
To tackle this challenging project, ISD partnered with International Construction Equipment, Inc. (ICE®) to select the best equipment for the job. After careful consultation, the ICE®44B Vibratory Hammer and ICE® D50 Diesel Impact Hammer were chosen as the ideal tools for installing the combi wall. This dual-hammer approach—leveraging vibration and impact—proved essential for driving piles through the dense sand and coral layers found in the area. With both hammers delivering an impressive 207 tons of driving force, ISD has been able to maintain efficiency and stay on schedule.
Hydrauli-Flex: The Backbone of Performance
What makes these high-performing hammers so reliable? They’re powered by Hydrauli-Flex hoses. Known for their durability and precision under extreme conditions, Hydrauli-Flex hoses ensure the ICE®44B and ICE® D50 operate seamlessly, providing the power and control needed to handle the demanding requirements of marine construction.
At The Hose Company, we design Hydrauli-Flex hoses to meet the most rigorous standards, ensuring our partners can trust them to perform in any environment—whether it’s dense coral or highly compacted sand. Seeing Hydrauli-Flex hoses in action on this landmark project underscores our commitment to enabling progress around the globe.
A Vision for the Future
The Turks and Caicos Islands are renowned for their breathtaking beauty and vibrant tourism industry. The South Dock redevelopment project represents more than just infrastructure improvements; it’s a gateway to economic growth and expanded opportunities for businesses and residents alike. By creating a safer, more efficient harbor, this project will support TCI’s development as a hub for commerce and tourism in the Caribbean.
International Construction Equipment, Inc. (ICE®) and Island Site Development have set the stage for success, and we at The Hose Company are honored to contribute to this historic endeavor. With Hydrauli-Flex hoses powering the equipment behind the scenes, we’re helping to turn ambitious plans into reality.
Here’s to a brighter, more prosperous future for the Turks and Caicos Islands, and to all the hardworking teams bringing this vision to life!
