Preserving a Historic Fish Hatchery

At The Hose Company, we're proud that our Hydrauli-Flex hoses are the chosen hydraulic solution for ICE® equipment. Today, we're sharing how our specialized hoses helped power an important environmental project at one of North America's vital fish hatcheries.

Fishing isn't just a beloved pastime in North America—it's a crucial part of our ecosystem and economy. The Welaka National Fish Hatchery in Florida, operating since 1926, plays an essential role in maintaining sustainable fish populations across Georgia, Alabama, and Florida. When this historic facility needed crucial upgrades, our Hydrauli-Flex hoses were there to power the ICE® equipment that made it happen.

The challenge was significant: boats were being inadvertently pulled toward the hatchery's pump house, creating potential disruptions for newly released fish in the St. Johns River. Barefoot Marine Construction of Jacksonville, Florida, was tasked with constructing an artificial inlet to redirect boat traffic—a project requiring the powerful combination of ICE® equipment and our specialized Hydrauli-Flex hoses.

Our Hydrauli-Flex hoses, specifically designed for ICE® Vibratory Hammers and Drills, were the perfect match for the ICE® 416 Vibratory Pile Driver/Extractor used in this project. These hoses are engineered to handle the extreme demands of ICE® equipment, withstanding high pressures and harsh conditions while maintaining optimal performance. The successful installation of PZ-27 sheet piles, driven 60 feet into the waterbed, was made possible by this powerful partnership of ICE® equipment and Hydrauli-Flex hoses.

The ICE® 416's impressive 100-ton driving force, powered by our reliable Hydrauli-Flex hoses, allowed for quick and efficient installation with minimal environmental impact—a crucial consideration when working in sensitive aquatic environments. Our hoses' proven durability and reliability ensured that the equipment performed consistently throughout the project, creating a 4-foot channel to protect both the pump house operations and the newly released fish.

What makes this project particularly noteworthy is the seamless integration between ICE® equipment and our Hydrauli-Flex hoses. Designed specifically for these demanding applications, our hoses provided the consistent power delivery needed for precise control during the marine construction process.

Today, thanks to the collaborative efforts of Barefoot Marine Construction, ICE® equipment powered by Hydrauli-Flex hoses, the Welaka National Fish Hatchery continues its vital mission with improved infrastructure. Boaters can now navigate safely away from the pump house, allowing the hatchery to focus on what they do best—maintaining sustainable fish populations for future generations.
