Preserving Rhode Island’s Heritage at Crescent Park Looff Carousel

At The Hose Company, we take pride in seeing our Hydrauli-Flex hoses at the heart of projects that protect and preserve the nation’s landmarks. This summer, our technology played a critical role in safeguarding a cherished piece of history: the Crescent Park Looff Carousel in East Providence, Rhode Island.

For generations, families have enjoyed the charm of this National Historical Landmark, nestled alongside Rose Larisa Memorial Park. Unfortunately, years of severe storms and rising sea levels had taken their toll on the park's seawall, leaving it compromised and threatening the surrounding shoreline. Without immediate intervention, the land erosion could have imperiled the treasured Looff wooden horses.

A Race Against Erosion

Coastal erosion is unpredictable, hitting hardest during sporadic violent weather events. For low-lying states like Rhode Island, composed of loose, sandy deposits, the challenge is even greater. The Rhode Island Coastal Management team recognized the urgency of restoring the seawall to preserve both the shoreline and the iconic carousel.

MAS Building & Bridge, a respected construction firm based in Norfolk, MA, stepped in to take on the challenge. The plan called for removing the old wall, laying revetment stone, and constructing a new granite block wall. At the heart of this effort was the ICE® Model 2 Vibratory Hammer, chosen for its precision and efficiency in driving 27-foot-long deposit sheets into the ground to form a sturdy foundation.

Hydrauli-Flex: The Backbone of ICE® Equipment

The ICE® Model 2 Vibratory Hammer relied on Hydrauli-Flex hoses to deliver the power and reliability needed for this critical task. Known for their durability and precision engineering, our hoses ensure that ICE® equipment operates at peak performance, even under demanding conditions. With the Hydrauli-Flex hoses transferring hydraulic power seamlessly, the vibratory hammer was able to drive the sheets firmly and securely, ensuring long-term structural integrity without risk of material failure.

Protecting Landmarks, One Project at a Time

This collaboration between MAS Building & Bridge, ICE® pile driving solutions, and The Hose Company’s Hydrauli-Flex hoses exemplifies the power of teamwork and innovative engineering. Together, we’ve helped protect Rhode Island’s coastline and preserved the legacy of the Crescent Park Looff Carousel for future generations to enjoy.

As manufacturers of Hydrauli-Flex, we are proud to support projects that make a real difference—not just in infrastructure but in safeguarding our shared history. Nice work, MAS Building & Bridge, for helping to keep Rhode Island’s national treasures safe!

If your next project requires reliability, durability, and top-tier performance, look no further than Hydrauli-Flex. Together, we’ll build a stronger foundation for the future.
