Rebuilding a Legacy: Hydrauli-Flex Hoses Power the Hinsdale-Brattleboro Bridge Project
A shared vision for the future of New Hampshire and Vermont’s infrastructure has been nearly three decades in the making. Now, it's finally coming to fruition with the long-awaited replacement of the 200-year-old Hinsdale-Brattleboro Bridge. This transformative project, led by the New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT), is set to reshape connectivity and spark economic growth across the Connecticut River.
The $61.2 million initiative will replace two deteriorating spans with a wider, single-span bridge, easing congestion for the thousands of drivers who cross this state border daily. Additionally, the original bridges will be repurposed for pedestrians, bicyclists, and recreation along the river, blending historical preservation with modern utility.
A Collaborative Effort for Progress
To meet the rigorous demands of this project, Reed & Reed, Inc., the general contractor based in Woolwich, Maine, partnered with International Construction Equipment, Inc. (ICE) to source the highest-quality pile driving equipment. Their efforts began with the construction of a temporary trestle, allowing access to the underwater piers.
ICE’s state-of-the-art equipment, including the ICE® 33 Vibratory Hammer and the ICE® HB55 Hydraulic Rotary Head, played a pivotal role in driving and drilling the 30-inch diameter steel pipes that form the foundation of the bridge’s seven piers. This combination of cutting-edge technology and expert craftsmanship ensures structural integrity and long-term resilience for the new bridge.
