Revitalizing the Meadowlands Arena: A Foundation Built on Strength and Durability

The Meadowlands Arena, once a hub for basketball enthusiasts as the home of the New Jersey Nets, is now entering a new chapter in its history. Located in Rutherford, NJ, this iconic structure is part of a broader complex that includes MetLife Stadium and the American Dream Shopping and Entertainment complex. Formerly known as the IZOD Arena, it has been quiet since its prime in the early 1980s, but it’s poised for a vibrant transformation.

In 2021, the state of New Jersey launched plans to convert the area surrounding the Meadowlands Arena into a bustling convention center destination. As part of this redevelopment, the foundation and surrounding grounds required some critical reinforcements to ensure the building’s structural safety. Joseph M. Sanzari, a contractor known for their expertise in heavy-duty construction, was tasked with this important mission.

To reinforce the foundation and prevent any concerns about soil shifting or settling, the Sanzari team selected the ICE® 22D Vibratory Pile Driver/Extractor to install 30-foot sheeting piles. This lightweight yet powerful pile driver, with a driving force of 94 tons, was the perfect choice to drive pilings to the required depth. It is an efficient and reliable piece of equipment, ensuring that the foundations of the Meadowlands Arena would remain solid for decades to come.
