The Hose Company: Powering ICE Equipment for Critical Marine and Industrial Applications

When it comes to the vast operations of cargo ships and offshore oil platforms, ensuring smooth and safe operations is paramount. Cargo ships, often massive in size, can take up to ten hours to dock due to the meticulous maneuvering required. The key to preventing these marine giants from colliding with docks, piers, or other installations lies in the fender systems used in ports, harbors, and offshore oil and gas fields. These systems, also known as dolphins, play a critical role in absorbing collision energy and preventing damage to both vessels and shoreline structures. But like any system, these fenders require regular maintenance to ensure they continue to operate efficiently and safely.

At the Chevron Pascagoula Oil Refinery, located on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the importance of a functional marine fender system cannot be overstated. As the only refinery in this region, it is equipped with four marine terminals and eight berths where 800-foot-long oil tankers dock around the clock. These terminals unload crude oil through pipelines to the refinery’s storage tanks, ensuring continuous production of essential fuels like motor petrol, diesel, and LPG. But when fender systems begin to show signs of wear and tear, repair and maintenance are critical to avoid costly disruptions.

This is where Walters Diving & Marine, Inc. came into play. Tasked with reconstructing the aging fenders at the Chevron facility, they selected the ICE® 200C Vibratory Driver for the job. This powerful piece of equipment, with a 675-ton driving force, made quick work of driving 72-inch diameter, 110-foot-long steel pipe piles into the seabed. Steel piles, thanks to their durability and corrosion resistance, are an excellent choice for marine environments, especially when faced with challenging seafloor conditions. Unlike timber or concrete, steel piles offer unmatched strength and longevity, ensuring the continued safety of both the vessels and the refinery’s infrastructure.

However, the real story behind the seamless operation of the ICE® vibratory hammer is the hydraulic power that drives it—powered by Hydrauli-Flex hoses.

Hydrauli-Flex Hoses: Essential for Efficient Operation

Hydrauli-Flex hoses are the perfect complement to ICE vibratory hammers, offering exceptional durability and performance under high-pressure conditions. In such demanding environments, consistent hydraulic flow is crucial to the efficient operation of the vibratory hammers, and Hydrauli-Flex hoses deliver just that. Their robust construction is designed to minimize the risk of leaks or failures, which enhances both the safety and reliability of the equipment.

Hydrauli-Flex hoses are built to handle the immense pressures required for tasks like driving steel piles in tough marine conditions. The reliability and safety these hoses provide are critical for the smooth functioning of ICE vibratory hammers, ensuring successful project outcomes for the Chevron Pascagoula Oil Refinery and beyond. By pairing Hydrauli-Flex hoses with ICE vibratory hammers, Walters Diving & Marine ensured that the repair and reconstruction of the fender system was completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest standards.
