Powering the Future of Mansfield Township: Hydrauli-Flex Hoses Fuel Statewide Infrastructure Upgrades

In a world where economic growth and urban expansion demand more from our electrical infrastructure, it’s essential to ensure that the systems in place can handle the surge. That’s where Hydrauli-Flex hoses come in from The Hose Company. The construction of a new electrical substation in Mansfield Township, New Jersey, which now powers over 32,000 homes and businesses, relied on the strength and reliability of our hoses to help bring this ambitious project to life.

Maximizing Power with Every Step

The new substation, overseen by PSE&G Power, was designed to alleviate pressure from overloaded nearby stations like Bustleton and Crosswicks, while supporting the region’s rapid growth. With over 4,300 new businesses popping up in the greater Mansfield area, the demand for reliable power became more pressing than ever. To meet this demand, the substation was built with a strong foundation—literally—and Hydrauli-Flex hoses were there to help make it happen.

The ICE® Model 66C Vibratory Driver and Extractor, providing 245 tons of driving force, was at the heart of driving the caissons that now support the electrical poles linking the power lines to the new transmission network. As a key supplier to this project, we provided the Hydrauli-Flex hoses that powered the machinery responsible for driving the caissons deep into the ground.

Hydrauli-Flex Hoses: Supporting the Equipment Behind the Power

As the manufacturer of Hydrauli-Flex hoses, we take pride in providing high-performance hydraulic hoses that ensure the smooth operation of ICE® equipment during complex foundation work. The hoses, designed for durability and reliability, are crucial for the vibratory drivers, like the ICE® 66C and the larger ICE® 110C Vibratory Driver, to deliver the immense driving force required for the caissons. Thanks to our hoses, the equipment operated efficiently, ensuring that the foundation work was completed safely and on time.

CJ Drilling, one of the largest woman-owned foundation drilling contractors in North America, was behind the construction of the substation. Working together with ICE® equipment, CJ Drilling’s team created a robust foundation for the new electrical infrastructure. With Hydrauli-Flex hoses fueling the vibratory drivers, the foundation caissons were successfully driven to the required depths, securing the infrastructure that now powers the community.

A Strong Foundation for 32,000 Homes and Businesses

The construction of the Mansfield Township substation involved a pair of 230kV/13kV transformers, a 230kV four-breaker ring bus, enclosed switchgear, and a control building. The successful installation of caissons—driven by ICE® equipment and powered by Hydrauli-Flex hoses—was a critical component of the project. These caissons now securely anchor the electrical poles, ensuring that the power infrastructure will remain strong for years to come.

The first phase of the construction was completed on schedule, and PSE&G energized the station in December 2022. Early successes during the foundation phase proved that when quality equipment and experienced contractors come together, outstanding results follow. Mansfield Township is now supported by a reliable power infrastructure, and Hydrauli-Flex hoses were proud to play a part in making it happen.
