Hydrauli-Flex Powered the Foundations of Innovation at Stepan Company's Facility

At Hydrauli-Flex, we were proud to have played a crucial role in supporting the expansion of Stepan Company’s alkoxylation capabilities at their Pasadena, TX facility. Two years ago, Stepan embarked on a $220 million project to enhance its production of surfactants—key ingredients in everyday products like soaps, shampoos, detergents, and disinfectants. This new plant not only helped meet the growing global demand but also strengthened Stepan’s presence in the U.S. Gulf Coast.

The foundation work for this cutting-edge facility was handled by GROUP Contractors from Baton Rouge, LA. To tackle the challenging soil conditions at the site, they relied on International Construction Equipment ICE® equipment, specifically the ICE® HB-85 Hydraulic Rotary Head, powered by an ICE® 460T Power Unit. Our durable Hydrauli-Flex hydraulic hoses were critical in powering this equipment, ensuring smooth and reliable operation throughout the project.

The ICE® HB-85 was renowned for its high-speed and high-torque capabilities, making it ideal for pre-drilling through the toughest soil layers. For this project, it drilled 24-inch-diameter augured cast-in-place (ACIP) piles to a depth of 100 feet. These deep foundations provided a stable base for Stepan’s new facility, ensuring its long-term success and operational efficiency.

Our hydraulic hoses, designed for extreme durability and flexibility, ensured that the ICE® equipment maintained peak performance under the demanding conditions of this project. From handling immense pressures to maintaining consistent hydraulic flow, Hydrauli-Flex hoses were at the heart of the project’s success, allowing the drilling equipment to function seamlessly.

When the facility became operational in 2023, Stepan’s expanded site became a critical hub for producing surfactants used in everything from cleaning solutions to agricultural products.
