Hydrauli-Flex Supports the Future of Transit: The Minneapolis Bus Garage Project

At Hydrauli-Flex, we pride ourselves on keeping the ICE equipment running smoothly, ensuring that major construction projects can proceed without a hitch. One of the most exciting developments in our region is the ongoing Minneapolis Bus Garage Project, a state-of-the-art transit hub set to transform downtown Minneapolis.

A Game-Changer for Public Transit

The Minneapolis Bus Garage Project, with a budget of $116.9 million, is designed to be a multi-faceted location for the city’s bus fleet. Spanning over 400,000 square feet, this impressive structure will feature two levels dedicated to bus storage and maintenance. The facility will boast 24 maintenance bays, capable of storing up to 216 buses, along with specialized lifts that can accommodate various fleet types for comprehensive repairs.

Foundation Work by Bolander

The foundation work for this ambitious 10-acre site has been awarded to Bolander, a company with a rich history dating back to 1924. Known for their expertise in public and private projects across the Midwest, Bolander is well-equipped to handle the challenges of this large-scale undertaking.

To ensure the successful placement of over 1,600 10-12” caissons, Bolander turned to International Construction Equipment ICE® for reliable foundation equipment. Their collaboration with an ICE® representative led to the selection of an ICE® 33 Vibratory Driver/Extractor, paired with an ICE® 55 Wood Pile Clamp fitted with caisson jaws. This innovative setup enabled Bolander to drive all 1,600 piles efficiently while minimizing wear on the jaws by turning the clamp 180 degrees.

A Collaborative Success

The partnership between Bolander and ICE® highlights the importance of job-specific equipment solutions. By working closely together, they not only completed the foundation work smoothly but also set a standard for efficiency and effectiveness in construction practices.

The new Minneapolis Bus Garage is not just about infrastructure; it’s also about jobs and economic development. Upon completion, the facility is expected to create over 400 full-time living wage jobs, providing a significant boost to the local economy.

Looking Ahead

Minneapolis Bus Garage Project represents a critical investment in public transportation for the city. As we move forward, Hydrauli-Flex will continue to support this initiative and others like it, ensuring that the hydraulic systems that power our equipment remain in top condition.

We’re proud to be part of a project that will enhance public transit while fostering job growth and economic stability in Minneapolis. Stay tuned for updates as this incredible project progresses!
