Narragansett Bay Campus: A Milestone for Oceanographic Research

At Hydrauli-Flex, we take immense pride in being the backbone of the heavy equipment that drives vital construction projects, and our latest collaboration at the Narragansett Bay Campus of the University of Rhode Island is a shining example of this. As the manufacturer of hydraulic hoses for the state-of-the-art equipment provided by ICE, we are excited to support Mohawk Northeast in the ambitious endeavor of replacing the nearly 60-year-old pier, essential for oceanographic research.

In September, the Narragansett Bay Campus Pier hosted a sendoff celebration for the Oceanic Research Vessel Endeavor, marking a significant moment as it temporarily relocates due to upcoming construction. This new docking facility will not only enhance the operational capabilities of the Graduate School of Oceanography but will also stand as a testament to modern engineering and sustainability.

The Project at a Glance

Mohawk Northeast has been entrusted with this monumental project, which includes the construction of an access bridge, pier, dolphins, and a seawater pumping facility. These improvements are designed with the future in mind, ensuring a 50-year service life with an emphasis on durability and resilience. This aligns perfectly with our commitment at Hydrauli-Flex to provide the highest quality hydraulic hoses that withstand the rigors of such demanding applications.

To drive the structural foundations for this new docking facility, Mohawk is employing the ICE® Model 416L Vibratory Driver and Extractor, a powerhouse that efficiently drives 100' x 30" pipe sections into the ground. To ensure these piles meet their load-bearing requirements, they are also using the ICE® Model D-50 Diesel Impact Hammer. This combination of innovative equipment is critical in creating a sturdy base for the upcoming facility.

Supporting Innovation in Oceanography

The University of Rhode Island’s Narragansett Bay Campus is renowned for its commitment to advancing oceanographic research, boasting cutting-edge tools and facilities, including a nuclear reactor that powers the campus. This new pier will not only enhance the university’s research capabilities but will also support the upcoming 200-ft LOA research vessel scheduled for delivery in 2022.

At Hydrauli-Flex, we recognize the importance of projects like this, which not only drive technological advancements but also contribute to our understanding of the ocean and its ecosystems. Collaborating with Mohawk Northeast and ICE allows us to play a vital role in this transformative project.

A Partnership Built on Excellence

As the construction progresses, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Mohawk Northeast for being entrusted with such a foundational project. The meticulous planning and execution required for the new pier align with our mission to support industries that push boundaries and innovate for the future.

We are proud to supply the hydraulic hoses that power the equipment driving this vital project forward. Together with our partners, we look forward to seeing the new facilities come to life, enabling generations of researchers to explore and understand our oceans better.

Stay tuned for more updates as this exciting project unfolds! At Hydrauli-Flex, we’re committed to supporting innovation, durability, and excellence in every project we undertake.
